New Teacher Profile: Ms. Schnitzer

This year, the Trevor Upper School gained a new faculty member: Ms. Schnitzer. After graduating from Trevor in 2021 and attending Colgate University, Ms. Schnitzer returned to Trevor to begin her teaching journey. She knew that the perfect start to her teaching career would be here, with a community she had already been a part of. Ms. Schnitzer has joined the Math department as a 10th and 12th-grade Math teacher, working alongside Mr. Chang, Ms. Rogener, and Ms. Ioppolo. During Ms. Schnitzer’s own Bridge project, she chose to work as a teaching assistant in math classes with Ms. Rogener and Ms. Ioppolo. This is where she learned many of the teaching skills and tactics she uses today. She also came back to Trevor during many of her required observation hours and enjoyed learning from other teachers. Something she finds challenging about being a new teacher is keeping up with homework and notes. The portal is also something new to her that she is learning to navigate.

Not much has changed since she was a student due to the fact that she graduated in 2021, but some notable changes were the new furniture arrangements, and that granola bars are now in the cafeteria, which she says is something that never would have happened during her days here. Due to Covid, she also spent the last few years of her Trevor education virtually or with more restrictions. Some of her favorite things about teaching at Trevor are putting math problems up on the board and dissecting homework problems. While reflecting on her time at Trevor, she notices the critical, independent, and collaborative skills she gained while being a student. Now that she is in the teaching position, she hopes to teach those skills to all her students.
