Skating Party 2024

Trevor’s annual skating party took place this year on November 12th, uniting students, parents, and faculty members of all ages. Each year, Trevor rents out Wollman Rink in Central Park. With the blasting music reverberating throughout the rink, the energy and enthusiasm remain high. The songs include hits from a variety of decades and excite students and parents.

Inside there were many food options that hit the spot after multiple laps around the rink. Wollman Rink’s catering included pizza, hotdogs, chicken fingers, and cookies, although the majority believed that the hotdogs and chicken held superiority. The hot chocolate was also a popular choice, though it burned about 1 in 2 tongues.

The Parents’ Association co-presidents, PA Executive Board, and parent volunteers hold a fundamental role in planning the Skating Party. This event is scheduled far in advance; almost immediately after one year’s party ends, PA presidents reserve a date for the following year, and the contract is negotiated before the start of the upcoming school term. Additionally, parents market the event by sending out push pages and utilizing the Trevor Thursday Digest. Parent volunteers download and print ticket sheets prior to the party so that check-ins are readily available at the event – the PA’s level of preparedness allows the Skating Party to run smoothly year after year.

Trevor’s PA utilizes Wollman Rink’s mounted TVs as opportunities to share community announcements and promotional messages. The friendly environment of the skating party is also one of efficiency: when entering the interior area within Wollman Rink, there are two tables with eager parents signing families in. There is a presale table as well as a table for people who have already bought tickets. There are screens throughout the space with photos of the PA logo and presentations about PA events that have taken place throughout the year.

Upper School Division Chair, Jennifer Lapatine, explains that the main reason why she loves the skating party is because it is the “only all-school event where faculty, staff, and students are invited.” A timeless display of school unity and seasonal fun, the Skating Party was a resounding success and remains a cherished highlight within students’ time at Trevor.
