Initially written in 1963 by Ken Kesey and adapted for the big screen fifty years ago, One Who Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest has enduring themes that are still very relevant in today’s society. The story follows Randle McMurphy’s stay in a psychiatric hospital after he pretends to have a mental illness to avoid prison. Olivia N. ‘26, who plays McMurphy, describes her role as dual-sided, alternating between a lighthearted, charming masquerade and a serious, almost-crazed persona. Olivia stated that the play is a “political commentary about oppressive governments silencing people, and that McMurphy goes into a community and fights against oppression.”
Zoë T. ’26, who plays Candy Starr, a prostitute that visits the mental institute, has been involved with acting and constructing the set in Trevor’s theatre community for multiple years. She stated that she continues to act in the play “for the welcoming and evolving community,” and that the “best part is the feeling of everything coming together at the end.” The show will play November 10, 12, and 13. Tickets for all performances are currently available. Support your classmates and the Trevor theater community by coming to watch this provocative and timely play!
