Cosmo Cothran Bray (Mr. CB) is Trevor’s librarian, co-teacher of Radical Texts with JR, and 9th grade world history teacher. He joined us in March of 2024 and he works in the library on the fourth floor. We asked Mr. CB some questions - here’s what he said.

What is your favorite part about teaching at Trevor?

The schedule and the students are my favorite parts of Trevor. The schedule is well designed and guarantees that people always have time to meet. Students are very interested in learning at Trevor. What made you want to become a teacher? Both of my parents were teachers. Everything I did I would end up teaching it, like theater. My father was an English teacher and my mother was a librarian.

What was your favorite class as a kid?

My favorite classes were history and 9th grade geometry.

What’s your favorite time period in history (in general or to teach)?

Probably the entire history of the ancient world, the classical period. My favorite things are getting to teach about ancient empires like Persia and Rome.

What are your hobbies?

Outside of school I read a lot. I love going for walks, and am an avid board game player. I like hosting events and hosting picnics, and also hanging out with my cat. My favorite board game is Scythe. I also love Settlers of Catan.

What’s your favorite book?

I like The Anarchy as a nonfiction book right now. My favorite fiction book is The Grace of Kings.

What were you doing before you came to Trevor?

I was teaching 9th-10th grade history at a school in San Diego called Pacific Ridge School. I also taught small theater classes and directed some theater productions.

What made you want to teach at Trevor specifically?

Everyone was really, really nice. I wanted a school where everyone was always going to be excited to be there and use that energy to do high quality work.

What do you teach at Trevor?

9th grade world history, radical texts with JR (English and theater class), and I run the library.

What are your favorite ages/grades to teach?

9th grade. It’s what I’m the most comfortable with and it’s a really special year for a lot of people in high school. I like to watch the growth of the students.

What music do you like?

I like a lot of pop music, classic rock, and traditional Irish music.

What made you want to do stage combat and sword fighting?

I just always thought it was really cool. All of my favorite movies as a kid had sword fighting in them. My brother and I watched all of the Star Wars movies and had light saber fights in the backyard. When I started doing theater in Shakespeare you got to fight regularly. It was sort of a combination of loving Shakespeare and loving sword fighting. I did it every opportunity I could.
