During free periods and lunchtime, Trevor students have the opportunity to explore new locations to eat and socialize. In the Upper East Side area, there are several beloved restaurants and cafes that students regularly visit for snacks or smaller lunches. However, students who participate in extracurricular activities or live nearby may be in search of a more filling meal, and Nick’s Pizza delivers exactly that.
As the name suggests, Nick’s has several options for pizza, but they also serves pasta, seafood, and several other delicious Italian dishes. After 22 years of near-constant operation, Nick’s Pizza underwent necessary renovations over the summer of 2024. Sporting a new green exterior, more outdoor seating, and a freshened interior, the beloved location just two blocks away from Trevor has reopened at last. Nick’s Pizza is owned by Nick Angelis, who claims that he opened the restaurant to spread his family’s passion for authentic Italian cuisine and to preserve the traditions that shape this unique food. Their only location, which can be found on the corner of 94th Street and 2nd Avenue, was opened in 2002. For the entirety of its history, it has displayed the same classic red-and-gold awning, bold red signage, and fairly plain interior with simple decor and wooden furnishings. However, the restaurant’s recent renovation changed everything.
The well-worn floors of Nick’s have been replaced by a faded checkerboard pattern, while their once-plain walls are now lined with wood paneling. One back wall has been adorned with differently-shaped cubbyholes and shelves, which hold several photographs and plants. Nick’s has also expanded to accommodate larger dining parties, with different seating arrangements like boots and long dining tables in addition to the traditional two-seat table. They have also added several barstools.
The renovation has given the restaurant a more modern, vibrant feel. The sign is sleeker and the entire restaurant is painted green. There is even a fresh green awning hanging over the brand-new outdoor seating area. The renovation has given the restaurant a more modern, vibrant feel. Unfortunately, as Nick’s Pizza is a sit-down restaurant, it is not a viable option for Trevor’s forty-minute lunch period. However, for students who live locally, Nick’s is a great place to eat. Students who stay in the building late to see plays, Choreolab, or athletics have long utilized Nick’s as a dinner spot for family members and friends, and the restaurant’s renovation makes it all the more promising.
